Creating a Cabinet from a Wine Crate

Sorry it`s been so long since I last posted......time flies... Today I wanted to share with you a project I did today using an old wooden wine crate I bought yesterday for $5.00
 Here it is

Nothing fancy, made from pine, with an engraved label at the top.

I had my husband cut me a shelf from a thin piece of wood we had in a left over pile...........

Then I picked out a pretty scrapbooking paper I had, then covered the back of the crate and the shelf, I used mod-podge to adhere it to the wood.

I wanted to finish the edges of the crate at the front so we went to Lowes and choose a molding.
It cost $5.75 for about 8 feet............My husband cut it to size and we applied it to the front of the cabinet and shelf using a hot glue gun ( it was quicker than liquid nails, but we did use liquid nails for the shelf support.)

Once all of the trim was on I decided I wanted to paint the rest of the inside. I had planned on painting the outside, but after seeing it this far I had a change of mind. I used an ivory craft paint called antique parchment. It came from Walmart craft section for 57 cents a bottle, I used about 1 1/2 bottles for 2 coats.

Now just to wait for it to dry and then put the shelf in place.................

Voila........A vintage looking cabinet from a wooden wine crate for well under $15........
Now to fill it with eye candy.......

I just love how it came out! I can change the items inside to create a new look whenever I desire, even decorate it for the holidays!    I`m thinking birds, nests and eggs for the Spring......hmm...where can I find some of those.........

  1. Val, I just finished distressing a crate in a aqua and was stumped how to continue. Love yours and the vignette you styled for it. The special touch is the bird hanging from inside. Thanks for coming by to visit! I need to put one of those blog lists on my side bar. I am learning as I go.

  2. Thanks Donna!
Now I`ll be looking for crates and boxes everywhere I go. Can you imagine stacking several together top and sides to make a full sized cabinet full of little cubbies......can you say heaven! :)
